HFM and XM are both MetaTrader houses (MT4 and MT5) with Zero accounts from 0.0 pip on EUR/USD — and on those raw accounts XM is the cheaper of the two, at $3.50 per lot against $6.00 at HFM. HFM in turn needs no minimum deposit (XM: $5) and carries the broader CFD range, including bond and ETF CFDs. Both charge $5 a month for inactivity, but XM after 90 days and HFM only after six months — so occasional traders fare better at HFM.

Side by side. Decided with knowledge.
See the differences that matter, and the Academy lessons that explain them.
Entry and fees: HFM asks for no minimum deposit and XM for $5 — both low enough not to decide anything. The account models are the more interesting question. On the Zero accounts both start at 0.0 pip on EUR/USD, but commission separates them: HFM charges $6.00 per lot, XM $3.50 per lot. Without commission, HFM quotes from 1.2 pip on its Premium account, XM from 1.6 pip on Standard and from 0.6 pip on Ultra Low. Longer breaks cost money at both: $5 a month, at HFM after six months of inactivity, at XM after just 90 days.
Products and platforms: Both are MetaTrader houses with MT4 and MT5, each with its own app on top. Both state over 1,000 instruments. HFM lists bond CFDs and ETF CFDs alongside forex, metals, indices, stock CFDs, commodities and crypto CFDs; XM lists energies instead. HFM brings HFcopy, a copy-trading platform; XM scores with extensive webinars and education plus negative balance protection. Neither offers options trading.
Profile and verdict: HFM (4.0/5 from 950 reviews) was founded in 2010 and is regulated by CySEC, the FCA and the FSCA, but headquartered in St. Vincent. XM (4.1/5 from 1,800 reviews) has run since 2009, sits in Limassol and is regulated by CySEC, ASIC and the DFSA. If you trade raw spreads, XM charges the lower commission; if you want bond or ETF CFDs, copy trading or an FCA licence, HFM has them.
