Both are regulated options for German investors — Bitpanda under Austria's FMA, Coinbase with a BaFin licence for Germany. Through Coinbase Advanced at 0.00–0.60% maker/taker, Coinbase is the cheaper choice for active crypto traders; its simple mode charges up to 1.49%, the same as Bitpanda's crypto spread. Bitpanda is rated higher (4.3/5 vs 4.1/5) and adds stocks, ETFs and metals alongside crypto, plus savings plans.

Find the broker that fits
Side by side. Decided with knowledge.
See the differences that matter, and the Academy lessons that explain them.
Entry and fees: Coinbase starts at a $2 minimum deposit, Bitpanda at €25. For running costs, both depend on how you access them. Bitpanda charges a crypto spread of around 1.49% in its broker model, from 0.15% through Bitpanda Pro; for stocks it names premium pricing. Coinbase charges 0.00% to 0.60% maker/taker through Coinbase Advanced and up to 1.49% in simple mode, or a spread of around 0.5% on a simple buy. Use Coinbase's simple buy route, then, and you pay much the same as in Bitpanda's broker model.
Products and platforms: Bitpanda is broader across asset classes: crypto, stocks, ETFs, metals, commodities and crypto indices on one platform, plus savings plans (Bitpanda Savings) and the Bitpanda Card, across web, app and Bitpanda Pro. Advanced tools and margin trading are missing. Coinbase sticks to crypto, staking and NFTs, is described as very user-friendly and offers Coinbase Earn, across web, app and Coinbase Advanced; its advanced trading features are likewise limited. Neither offers options.
Profile and verdict: Bitpanda (4.3/5 from 1,800 reviews) was founded in 2014, sits in Vienna and is regulated by the FMA. Coinbase (4.1/5 from 2,500 reviews) was founded in 2012, sits in San Francisco, is listed on NASDAQ and names BaFin and FinCEN as its supervisors. If you want crypto and securities in one European app and to invest through savings plans, Bitpanda is the fit; if you trade pure crypto and want to cut fees through Coinbase Advanced, Coinbase is.
